Project Borneo 3D and DeforestACTION, an unprecedented multi-platform project to save rainforests and start a wave of youth action, launched a global search in February for ten courageous, passionate and charismatic young people to lead the project and feature in a 3D movie. Applications are pouring in from across the globe, including many parts of South East Asia and Europe, Egypt, India, Ghana and Argentina. To date the majority of applicants are from Australia and Canada. Our support networks in China, the USA and Indonesia have requested more time to spread the word.

Therefore, due to over-whelming demand, Virgo Productions, in association with TakingITGlobal, has extended the recruitment call deadline to 17:00 EST Sunday April 10th.

This will allow more time for our global partners to extend the call for applicants further afield, and give those applicants caught in the backlog of submissions the opportunity to gain votes and support for their entry. The final ten recruits will be announced May 1, 2011, with filming set to commence in Indonesia on July 1.

DeforestACTION is an initiative developed by Microsoft’s Partners in Learning1  program and Toronto-based  TakingITGlobal2,  and driven by millions of students across the globe working with acclaimed conservationist Dr. Willie Smits and Orangutan Outreach. The selected Project Leaders will spend five months in Borneo as the eyes, ears, and hands-on activists for the project, connecting with millions around the globe, via social media, online sites, blogs, mobile apps and satellite mapping technology. They will undertake many challenges and adventures, and risk wellbeing and comfort, in order to save the forests and orangutans.

Award-winning Queensland production company, Virgo Productions is developing a 3D documentary about the project in collaboration with National Geographic Entertainment and supported by Screen Queensland. This is the largest, most ambitious documentary project ever mounted in the Asia/Pacific region.

Applications for the ten Project Leaders now close Sunday April 10 at 17:00EST.
